TENWomen (2023)
The woman’s body is always up for public opinion, never is it allowed to be personal and hidden from the eyes of the world. The woman is not treated like a person, but as a body that takes up space and is never good enough. When born a woman, these expectations and unrealistic standards are thrusted upon her without her consent and she is forced to carry this. To cope, the woman desensitizes. She goes into a trance where self-critique is the norm. She is her worst critic.
To retrain the thinking that the woman has she must take a step back and ponder what is really right in front of her. This work assists with this. 10 women. Pulled apart and then priced back together. 10 women. Not dissected under a microscope but admired from a close distance. 10 women, seen only as perfectly complete.
A Piece of MY Americana (2021)
Watkins Glen, NY. Known for its summertime winery tours, the NASCAR racetrack, and Seneca Lake. A textbook definition of a “tourist town” in the Northeastern United States. But when all of that is removed, what is there left?
In my years living in this village of 1,780 people, the veil of that coveted vacation spot turned into simplistic beauty in the 2.2-mile radius.
Bright red brick and sleek corvets zooming by the old bank. Remnants of charred buildings and the bubbling brook. Train tracks turned to walkways and our own Flatiron building. The skyline of the locals with a factory in sight and the silo on the hills.
This was my piece of Americana.
